“…In one of the reports, in situ hybridization was performed on the histological section [2]. Similar to the present case, multiple organs of the birds were infected in 6 reports [1, 35, 7, 12]. In the 13 reports, birds of 10 different families have been involved.…”

“…The present report is the first one which a yellow-bibbed lory ( Lorius chlorocercus , a parrot in the family Loriidae ) was infected. Similar to the previous two outbreaks [3, 4], the exact source of the infection is still obscure in the present study but is presumed to be environmental. Testing of food and soil samples was negative for Nocardia growth, but exhaustive sampling of other components in the habitat such as vegetation was not performed.…”

“…The disease usually occurs in conjunction with immune suppression or underlying disease in human beings 10. In animals, Nocardia is typically aspirated, leading to a granulomatous pneumonia with subsequent hematogenous dissemination 2,6,9,11. Nocardial infection may follow immune suppression caused by chronic disease in exotic species3,7,12 or be associated with environmental stressors in wildlife 5,16.…”

“…Nocardia bacteria are aerobic, Gram-positive, branching, filamentous and rod-shaped. Although many Nocardia species are commonly found in soil and plants [216][217][218], which may be innocuous to human and animals, some Nocardia species are primary pathogen of human and animals [219][220][221][222]. Recently, Nocardia sp.…”
