Overview
Anticancer therapies often cause alterations in gonadal function for both men and women, which can cause infertility. This chapter reviews the assessment of gonadal function in men and women, effects of specific anticancer therapies on gonadal function (including cytotoxic chemotherapy, targeted agents, and radiation), and pregnancy implications of select anticancer therapies. Protective measures for fertility preservation are discussed in detail, including standard of care modalities (sperm cryopreservation in men and embryo or oocyte cryopreservation in women) and experimental techniques.
