Nitrogen-regulated changes in total amino acid profile of maize genotypes having contrasting response to nitrogen deficit

Abstract: Sustainable development of cellular organisms depends on a precise coordination between the carbon and nitrogen metabolisms within the living system. Inorganic N is assimilated into amino acids which serve as an important N source for various regulatory metabolic pathways in plants. This study investigates the role of amino acids in C/N balance by examining changes in amino acid profile in the leaves and roots of low-N-tolerant (PHEM-2) and low-N-sensitive (HM-4) maize genotypes grown hydroponically under N-su… Show more

“…Consequently, Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ , NO 3 − , and PO 4 3− as well as plant hormones and enzymes cannot be translocated, and the source-sink relationship is interrupted [67]. The exogenous application of K at different growth stages decreases the uptake of harmful nutrients, enhancing tolerance to abiotic stress and boosting the yield and yield-related characteristics [68]. Iron (Fe) is another vital micronutrient that also has a synergistic relationship with K [69].…”

“…Nitrogen is one of the most abundant elements and is required for the biosynthesis of amino acids, proteins, and enzymes in plant cells (Ganie et al, 2017). Neolamarckia cadamba is fastgrowing species, and its rapid growth must be dependent on an adequate supply of N. Therefore, ND certainly affects the rapid growth of N. cadamba, but previous studies have not elucidated the underlying mechanisms.…”

“…Taha et al ., (2014) noted that high increment in the bear tree, fruit set %, average fruit weight and diminished of proportions of fruit drop are committed by the exogenous foliar spray of potassium sulphate and humic acid independently or by mixing the two materials. Also, diminishing the absorbance of harmful elements, approving resistance to abiotic stress and encouraging the fruit-bearing and its related traits returned to the exogenous application of potassium at tremendous growth stages (Ganie et al, 2017).…”
