Nitrogen‐Doped Foam‐like Carbon Plate Consisting of Carbon Tubes as High‐Performance Electrode Materials for Supercapacitors

Abstract: A nitrogen‐doped foam‐like 3D carbon plate is prepared by carbonizing a selected biomass precursor of pomelo peel. The carbon plate is composed of interwoven connected carbon tubes and shows a unique 3D interpenetrating macroporous network with binary‐channel structure. Owing to the proper pore structures, short ion‐diffusion paths, high conductivity, and high structure stability, the carbon plate exhibits excellent electrochemical performance as an electrode for supercapacitors directly. A high specific capac… Show more

“…Figure S1b shows the presence of micropores (<2 nm), mostly prominent for 0.5M‐700N‐800C and 0.5M‐700N‐500C, also explained by a high nitrogen uptake at low pressures, as is clear from the isotherm in Figure S1a and this is characteristic of a mix of Type 2 and Type 3 behavior with hysteresis, in accordance with IUPAC recommendations ,. The samples also have mesopores (2–50 nm) shown by the pore distribution curves and also by the predominant hysteresis loops in the isotherms ,,. Table S2 gives the BET surface areas of the samples.…”

“…Pristine biochar and activated biochar have two bread-like peaks at about 2q ¼ 24 and 42 , which indicates the characteristic of amorphous. 27 The diffraction intensity of activated biochar in the low angle region is relatively large, indicating that they possess abundant micropores. 28 The nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms and the poresize distribution of as-prepared biochar samples are presented in Fig.…”

“…33 Many efforts have used to improve supercapacitor performance of activated carbons such as designing novel structures, constructing hierarchical pore architecture as well as introducing defects and heteroatom and/or functional groups. 26,29,[33][34][35][36] Novel structures can effectively shorten the pathways of ions diffusion and offer minimized diffusive resistance to mass transport on the interface between electrode and electrolyte. [37][38][39] Hierarchical pore architecture with an interconnected macro-, meso-, and microporous network can accelerate the speed of ion transport with improved rate capability.…”
