Nitrogen-Doped Carbon Dots via Hydrothermal Synthesis: Naked Eye Fluorescent Sensor for Dopamine and Used for Multicolor Cell Imaging

Abstract: The development of a novel uncomplicated sensor for sensitive and selective detection in biomedical analysis is necessary. This study demonstrates the preparation of nitrogen-doped carbon dots (NC dots) via hydrothermal synthesis as a naked eye fluorescent probe for selective and sensitive detection of dopamine (DA). The successful synthesis of NC dots was confirmed using various microscopic and spectroscopic techniques. In addition, NC-dot-incorporated gel strips were prepared through a simple approach for… Show more

“…Since the discovery of CQDs, a large variety of techniques for the preparation of CQDs have been developed (Mosconi et al, 2015; Lu and Yang, 2017; Wu et al, 2017; Yu et al, 2018; Anwar et al, 2019; Naik et al, 2019). Generally, synthetic methods of CQDs can be clarified into two groups: top-down and bottom-up methods (Figure 1).…”

“…Usually, the Hydro-thermal/solvo-thermal system reacted by an organic precursor in a hydrothermal reactor under higher temperatures [ 86 ]. Vaibhav Naik et al [ 87 ] reported novel nitrogen-doped CDs via the hydrothermal route. Carbon powder as a carbon source derived from acidic carbonization of sucrose combined with ammonia solution was heated in a Teflon-lined stainless-steel hydrothermal autoclave.…”

“…Figure 7 Various possible applications of N-CDs in agriculture N-doped carbon dots or N-doped CDs are functionalized materials that derive from carbon dots (CDs). [145][146][147] Due to nitrogen doping along with available functional groups on the surface, N-doped CDs have been investigated to enhance remarkably their optical properties compared to CDs. Based on the unique features of N-CDs, potential applications of N-CDs are summarized in Figure 7.…”
