Nitrogen and Carbon Nitride-Doped TiO2 for Multiple Catalysis and Its Antimicrobial Activity

Abstract: Nitrogen (N) and carbon nitride (C3N4)-doped TiO2 nanostructures were prepared using co-precipitation route. Fixed amount of N and various concentrations (0.1, 0.2, 0.3 wt%) of C3N4 were doped in TiO2 lattice. Through multiple techniques, structural, chemical, optical and morphological properties of samples were thoroughly investigated. XRD results verified anatase TiO2 presence along the substitutional doping of N, while higher degree of crystallinity as well as increased crystallite size were noticed after d… Show more

“…In absorption spectra, redshift is observed with Ba (2%, 4%) doping, resulting in decreased band gap energy (Eg). Tauc transformation was used to calculate Eg, as displayed in Fig 4b . The estimated Eg was 3.25 eV for TiO 2 [33], and Eg was reduced with a low and high doping concentration of Ba as 3.16 eV and 3.12 eV, respectively. The reduction of the band energy gap can be attributed to the increasing crystallite size demonstrated by the XRD measurements.…”

“…A variety of traditional approaches have been utilized, such as coagulation, 8 evaporation, 9 biological treatment, 10 filtration, advanced oxidation process, 11 electrochemical, photocatalysis, 12 adsorption, 13 and ion exchange 14 for the elimination of these contaminants (color dyes) from waste-water. 15 The main issue is that these traditional methods are costly as applied on large scales. Regarding this, researchers recently adopted various adsorbents, for example, zeolite, semiconductors, activated carbon, polymers, and carbon nanotube-based materials.…”
