Nitric Oxide Levels in Disruptive Behavioral Disorder

Abstract: There are various evidences of the role of nitric oxide (NO) in several neuropsychiatric disorders. However, there is no clinical study which investigated the role of NO in disruptive behavioral disorders (DBD). The aim of this study is to investigate the relation between NO levels and DBD. NO levels were measured in serum from 45 patients diagnosed as having DBD (30 patients with a diagnosis of attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder [ADHD] and 15 with ADHD + oppositional defiant disorder [ODD]) and 51 h… Show more

“…In the SHR, damaged non-selective attention was improved with the nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitor l -nitro-arginine methyl ester ( l -NAME) [ 69 ]. In contrast, reduced blood NO levels have been reported [ 70 ]. On the other hand, NO levels were significantly higher in ADHD [ 53 , 71 ].…”

“…21 Low levels of oxidant nitric oxide (NO) have also been reported in children with ADHD. 22 Furthermore, it has been shown that malondialdehyde (MDA) is statistically significantly low in children with ADHD. 23 In addition, in some studies oxidative stress was found to be increased in patients with ADHD.…”

“…The results indicate that sex plays a role in NO levels among ASD children. It was the first time that precise concentrations of serum nitrite and nitrate were independently disclosed among children aged between 2 and 10 years old, though the sum of nitrite and nitrate had been reported before ( Table 2 ) [ 19 , 22 , 29 , 43 ].…”
