“…Various epidemiologic studies suggest that lifestyle factors such as alcohol consumption, ultraviolet exposure, cigarette smoking and high carbohydrate diets are related to cataractogenesis. In addition, cataracts have been associated with many systemic diseases mainly diabetes mellitus, hypertension, obesity, chronic kidney disease and autoimmune disease [26][27][28][29][30][31][32]. Consistent with previous research, our study adds to a growing body of recent epidemiological reports supporting that the an older age, female group, physical activity, history of diabetes mellitus, and history of dyslipidemia were related to a higher incidence of cataracts.…”

“…Recently, kidney stone removal baskets made up of nitinol are used to lift and hold DN behind the iris plane is reported in a small series. 15 The authors commented that DN stayed more stable while it is removed with phacoemulsification through corneal incision. 15 In our study, we describe an alternative surgical technique for the removal of DN using the nitinol IOBF forceps to chop the DN intravitreally and remove the fragments by active aspiration with a cannula.…”
