“…3). This observation is in contrast to earlier studies (Brisaert and Plaizier-Vercammen 2000;Manconi et al 2003;Ioele et al 2005), most likely to due to the different conditions present in relatively dermatological preparations.…”

“…For 13RA, hydoxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin delays photodegradation and minimizes isomerization (Yap et al 2005) and inclusion of RA in liposomes has been reported to protect against photodegradation (Brisaert et al 2001). The chemical stability of RA in ethanol and niosomes under UV and artificial light conditions has been studied and incorporation of RA in niosomes led to reduce the rates of the photodegradation (Manconi et al 2003). The photodegradation process of RA and 13RA in ethanol and liposomes has been studied by UV spectrophotometry and RA was found to rapidly isomerizes in ethanol to 13 RA and 9RA with first-order kinetics (Ioele et al 2005).…”

“…Incorporation of tretinoin in liposomes to overcome its problems has been studied by several researchers (Foong et al, 1990;Masini et al,1993;Patel et al, 2000;Brisaert et al, 2001;Sinico et al, 2005). It was previously found that liposomes can increase tretinoin concentration in the epidermis and dermis when compared to conventional cream or gel (Manconi et al, 2003). Encapsulation of tretinoin into liposomes protects it from photo degradation.…”

“…This system provides multiple opportunities for the entrapment of hydrophilic drugs (by entrapment in aqueous compartment) as well as for lipophilic, amphiphilic and charged hydrophilic drugs (via association with vesicle bilayer by hydrostatic and/or electrostatic interactions; Sharma & Sharma, 1997;Honeywell & Bouwstra, 2005). Vesicles are composed of Phospholipids and non-ionic surfactants (Bouwstra & Hofland, 1994;Crommelin & Schreier, 1994), the extensive range of which can be used their formulation (Berner et al, 1995;Manconi et al, 2002Manconi et al, , 2003. Physicochemical characteristics of vesicles such as size, charge, thermodynamic phase, lamellarity and bilayer elasticity plays an important role in their behavior and eventually on their effectiveness as drug delivery system which are ultimately influenced by their composition.…”
