“…If the alloy is considered as an alloy of the (Ti,Nb,Hf)–Si–Al system, primary hexagonal 5-3 silicide is in agreement with the results reported in Reference [35]. If the alloy is considered as an alloy of the (Nb,Hf)-Ti-(Si,Al) system, then according to Bulanova and Fartushna [41] the reaction L + (Ti,Nb) 5 Si 3 → β(Nb,Ti) 5 Si 3 + (Ti,Nb) 5 Si 4 occurs at T < 1815 °C and then via L + β(Nb,Ti) 5 Si 3 → (Ti,Nb) 5 Si 4 + (Nb,Ti)Si 2 and L + (Ti,Nb) 5 Si 4 → (Nb,Ti)Si 2 + (Ti,Nb)Si the TMSi is formed below 1570 °C. Note that we did not observe (Nb,Ti)Si 2 in the alloy Nb 1.3 Si 2.4 Ti 2.4 Al 3.5 Hf 0.4 .…”

“…They also appear in a liquidus projection for the Nb-Si-Sn system [23] (see Supplemental data). There are 7 different versions of the projection for the former system [24,25,26,27,28,29,30] and one for the latter. In the case of the Nb-Ti-Si system some projections are experimental and some are calculated.…”

“…There are also disagreements between experimental and calculated liquidus projections of the Nb-Ti-Si ternary system. For example, experimental [ 26 ] and calculated [ 20 ] liquidus projections do not specify the type of Nb 5 Si 3 (β or α) forming from the melt, the calculated projections in [ 27 , 28 ] disagree with that in [ 29 ] and the liquidus projections in [ 28 ] and [ 30 ] differ significantly. In other words, there is disagreement about the effect Ti has on the stability of alloyed tetragonal (Nb,Ti) 5 Si 3 .…”
