“…Although the NF system is ubiquitous in the Western setting, it is less prominent both locally and in the region, perhaps influenced by traditional cultural norms of long working hours [15]. The implementation and structure of the NF system took into account the feedback and concerns of the junior doctors, an approach that had been described to be effective [16]. The effect of a NF system to fulfil the ACGME-I duty-hour restrictions was therefore important to assess in this relatively inexperienced group, in the domains of patient care, medical training and physician well-being.…”

(17) Defilippis et al separately described a viable on-site attending physician model that improved resident education and quality of patient care. (18) There were limitations to this study.…”

Furthermore, one of the proposed solutions to augment the NF with an intern to assist the on-call and a senior resident ( labeled as the "nighthawk") to supervise inpatient care and improve communication for a better teaching during the NF system [17].…”

“…However, multiple studies have shown controversial results regarding the implementation of the NF shifts system [2]. In contrast, one of the drawbacks was reduced autonomy for cross-coverage interns [17]. Furthermore, decreased residents' opportunity for education and learning [18].…”
