“…Shift work is defined as work that is performed intermittently and at different times, without a fixed schedule (2) , it is related to the stress characteristic of this condition and the resulting physiological responses, such as activation of the neuroendocrine reaction of stress by the hypothalamicpituitary-adrenal axis and glucocorticoid secretion, and of the autonomic reaction with the release of catecholamines. Prolonged and repeated release of these primary stress mediators with action on different target organs can trigger changes in blood pressure, heart rate, thrombotic and immune response processes, lipid and glucose metabolism, and central nervous system functioning (3) , increasing the risk of becoming ill.…”

“…Especially in the organizational context, night shift work has been linked to various negative outcomes such as workplace accidents and errors (Åkerstedt et al, 2002;Gold et al, 1992), reduced operational performance (Waggoner et al, 2012), turnover intentions (Lee et al, 2015), and absenteeism (Costa et al, 1990;Shen & Dicker, 2008). Additionally, previous research on occupational health also highlights the disruptive role of such shifts on employee health as well as social wellbeing (Price, 2011;Vicente-Herrero et al, 2016). Having all these issues still, the night shift remains highly necessary and in a managerial perspective it remains challenging to motivate employees to perform well during such symptomatically labeled "graveyard shift.…”
