Niğde İlinde Yetiştirilen Akkaraman Irkı Koyunların Bazı Döl Verim Özellikleri ve Kuzuların Büyüme Performansı

Abstract: In this study, growth performance of Akkaraman lambs and some fertility parameters of Akkaraman sheep raised in semi extensive farm conditions were investigated. A total of 6300 heads Akkaraman ewes (6000 ewes and 300 rams) housed in 34 farms located in central villages of Niğde province were evaluated between 2012 and 2016. The data of birth weight of 30161 lambs, body weight of 29517 lambs aged 90 days old and some fertility parameters of 30000 heads ewes were used. The average lambing rate of ewes was found… Show more

“…In the study, the birth weights of singlet and twin lambs were found as 4.41 ± 0.03 and 3.66 ± 0.03 kg, respectively and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.001). As predicted, in many studies conducted in the same breed, it was reported that the birth weight of single born lambs was higher than that of twin born and was statistically significant (Ceyhan et al, 2019;Çolakoğlu & Özbeyaz, 1999;Ünal, 2002). In the study, the least square mean of the birth weights of lambs born in January, February and March were found to be 4.03 ± 0.03, 4.08 ± 0.03 and 3.98 ± 0.04 kg respectively.…”

“…Interestingly, in the present study, ADWG of female lambs was slightly higher than that of males. In the study conducted by Ceyhan et al (2019) on Akkaraman lambs, it was reported that the ADWG of male lambs were higher than that of females. In the same study, ADWG of single-born lambs were higher than twinborn lambs.…”

“…The Akkaraman sheep, which is a fat-tailed and combined breed, represents an important part of the Turkish sheep population (Ünal, 2002). Therefore, the detection of a mutation that can be utilized to genetically improve meat quality in the Akkaraman sheep breed may have a higher impact than in other indigenous breeds with small numbers It is difficult to say whether or not genetic selection studies are performed for the Akkaraman breed because most selection studies are conducted by breeders based on morphological observations and previous experiences (Ceyhan et al, 2019). Considering that conventional breeding methods are difficult and time-consuming, possible or other genes affect meat yield and quality of domestic sheep breeds, especially the Akkaraman breed, should be investigated in comprehensive studies.…”

“…Akkaraman sheep are bred across a wide geographical area that includes Central Anatolia and nearby provinces (Boztepe, 2015;Kaymakçı, 2016). Many researchers have reported the following results for Akkaraman sheep: live weight is 35-50 kg (Boztepe, 2015), milk yield is 40-99.57 kg (Esen and Özbey, 2002;Mundan and Özbeyaz, 2004;Özmen et al, 2015;Kaymakçı, 2016;Kahraman and Özkul, 2020), lactation length is 120-155.80 days (Kaymakçı et al, 2001;Esen and Özbey, 2002;Mundan and Özbeyaz, 2004;Sönmez et al, 2009;Özmen et al, 2015;Kahraman and Özkul, 2020), twinning rate is 4.00-20.80% (Akçapınar et al, 2000;Kaymakçı et al, 2001;Esen and Özbey, 2002;Özmen et al, 2015;Ceyhan et al, 2019), fleece yield is 1.5-2.87 kg (Arık et al, 2002;Yıldız and Denk, 2006b;Boztepe, 2015;Kaymakçı, 2016;Tuncer and Cengiz, 2018), birth rate is 0.69-0.94 (Akçapınar et al, 2000;Özbey and Akçan, 2000a;Esen and Özbey, 2002;Ünal et al, 2006;Yakan et al, 2012;Özmen et al, 2015;Güngör and Ünal, 2020;Türkmen and Çak, 2021;Aksoy et al, 2023), the number of lambs born per ram is 0.93-1.03 (Esen and Özbey, 2002;Ceyhan et al, 2019;Aksoy et al, 2023), litter size at birth is 1-1.39 (Akçapınar et al, 2000;…”
