Literatur bildet seit jeher einen fiktionalen (Frei-)Raum Migrations- und Fluchterfahrungen äs-thetisch auf- und zu verarbeiten, sodass ein Sprechen über traumatisierende Ereignisse, Verlust, Gewalt und Ohnmacht möglich wird. Eine zentrale Rolle spielt häufig der geographische Raum als zu überwindende Hürde der Flüchtenden wie als Möglichkeit die eigene Identität zu veror-ten. So wird speziell in der modernen interkulturellen Literatur, die sich mit Fluchterfahren aus Ländern wie dem Irak, dem Iran, Syrien oder dem Libanon nach Europa auseinandersetzen die Grenzüberschreitung und die illegale Anwesenheit ebenso wie das brüchige Selbstverständnis ortsgebundener Zugehörigkeit zu einem eigenen ästhetischen Motiv. Anhand von Abbas Khi-ders Debütroman Der falsche Inder (2008) thematisiert der Beitrag die literarische Inszenierung des verbotenen Raums und dessen Implikationen für die Suche nach einem sicheren Ort für das Individuum. Die Unmöglichkeit an einem Ort zu bleiben, verwebt sich mit dem immer wieder scheiternden Versuch einer Selbstverortung, was in der Geschichte um den jungen Iraker Rasul Hamid auf unterschiedliche Weisen immer wieder Teil der Fluchterzählung ist und in jedem der acht Kapitel einer neuen Variante eines Sinngebungsprozesses unterzogen wird. Die Erzählung selbst erscheint in Khiders Roman als Bewältigungsstrategie des Individuums, um mithilfe der ästhetischen Inszenierung das eigene Selbst in eine die Identität bewahrende Sinnstiftung zu überführen.
