Nickel-Catalyzed Carbonylative Synthesis of Functionalized Alkyl Iodides

Abstract: SummaryFunctionalized alkyl iodides are important compounds in organic chemistry and biology. In this communication, we developed an interesting nickel-catalyzed carbonylative synthesis of functionalized alkyl iodides from aryl iodides and ethers. With Mo(CO)6 as the solid CO source, both cyclic and acyclic ethers were activated, which is also a challenging topic in organic synthesis. Functionalized alkyl iodides were prepared in moderate to excellent yields with outstanding functional group tolerance. Besides… Show more

“…All samples show a steep increase at P/P 0 around 0, which is due to the filling of micropores. 19,32 In addition, the samples exhibited type IV isotherms with clear H3 hysteresis loops in the P/P 0 > 0.45 region owing to capillary condensation in the mesopores. 33 The corresponding pore size of the samples were concentrated at 4−25 nm (Figure 2D).…”

“…The direct synthetic method was also disclosed by Wu et al. via the nickel-catalyzed carbonylation of aryl iodides and cyclic ethers with Mo(CO) 6 as the solid CO source . However, the transformation from the cyclic ethers with the readily available organoboronic acids to access aroyloxyalkyl iodides has never been disclosed.…”

“…Esters are ubiquitous structural elements of natural products, pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, polymers, biological systems, and also serve as a versatile building block for further functionalization in the design of valuable compounds Although a series of approaches, including direct transformation of aerobic oxidative coupling of aldehydes or alcohols, carbonylative coupling and so on, have been documented to generate esters, decades of research have evolved condensation of acyl transfer agents with alcohols or phenols into a commonly used method for their synthesis . Recently, facile direct esterification of carboxylic acids, representing a largely untapped branch of ester bond formation, has received intense attention .…”
