Abstract: Symptomatic nonparasitic cysts of the liver require surgical intervention. Seventy-one patients were treated between 1977 and 1993 at the Department of General Surgery, University of Vienna. Different surgical treatments were compared with regard to complications and recurrence. Interventional puncture led to recurrences in nearly all cases and represents only a palliative procedure.
