Due to the long reach of the next-generation passive optical network (PON), the idea of sharing infrastructure between multiple PON operators has emerged to reduce capital and operational expenditures. However, the standard transmission convergence layer requires an independent virtual bandwidth management process for each operator. Each operator uses a virtual dynamic bandwidth assignment (vDBA) for upstream bandwidth control. An additional bandwidth scheduler is required to create a single physical bandwidth map (phyBW-map) with non-overlapping time slots for each optical network terminal (ONT) or optical network unit (ONU) in the upstream frame. However, the existing slicing-based scheduler (SBS) using dynamic bandwidth assignment schemes does not perform well with the cyclic sleep process (CSP) for energy conservation in PON due to inefficient utilization of the residual bandwidth of the asleep ONUs of an operator. This work introduces an energy-efficient sleep-aware slicing-based scheduler (SA-SBS) for the multi-operator scenario of ten gigabit-capable symmetric PONs (XGS-PONs). Our approach (SA-SBS) achieves 7-10% better energy savings than the existing slicing-based scheduler (SBS) without compromising upstream delays and delay variance. Moreover, we demonstrate that our scheme outperforms the original SBS, resulting in an average delay(s) reduction of up to 28.5% for operators 1, 2, 3, and 4, respectively. Our findings can significantly improve the energy efficiency and latency performance of virtual PONs in multi-operator scenarios, paving the way for a sustainable and reliable communication infrastructure.INDEX TERMS Bandwidth assignment, bandwidth efficiency, energy efficiency, MT-vPON, vPON.

This article consists of the implementation of a VLAN network in the Hospital Central FAP. The objective is to increase information security, as well as to improve and optimize user data, and this is achieved through the development and use of different protocols, restrictions, and methods that helped to achieve this purpose. Likewise, the article uses the Topdown methodology, which has phases focused on analyzing, developing, and improving the different processes for designing and implementing a VLAN network topology. As a technique, an interview was conducted with the person who, through a series of questions, expressed their opinion on the hospital's problems under study. Data processing was carried out at a qualitative level using Atlas Ti22 software, which allowed the analysis of the perception of 6 people with direct knowledge of the hospital's problems. This information was used to obtain the data for the research work. The result was a high degree of deficiency and disagreement with the system they are currently using. They explained that their data were violated, generating concern among users and all the staff. In addition, the conclusion obtained was that in view of the existing problems, the experts indicated that the proposal related to the implementation of a VLAN Network would meet the desired expectations, providing security to the information, so they consider it a feasible and appropriate option that would be a great alternative for the improvement of the hospital.

Residential networks play a critical role in assuring that services or applications such as tele-work, tele-education, medical care, entertainment, home automation, among others, have the required resources to obtain an optimal performance. Although current residential gateways try to meet the Quality of Service (QoS) demands, the traditional networking paradigm does not have the appropriate mechanisms to address the heterogeneous and dynamic nature of the services running at home. In this context, a feasible solution consists of leveraging the flexibility and adaptability of the Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) paradigms to provide a differentiated traffic treatment intended to improve the QoS support of residential networks. The proposal takes advantage of the Service Function Chaining (SFC) concept intrinsic to NFV as well as the capacity of an SDN-based residential gateway to differentiate the traffic of a certain application. Thus, an association between an SFC and the differentiated traffic is stablished to apply a specific treatment. Besides, a comprehensive architecture composed of the software defined residential network (SDRN), the software defined access network (SDOAN) and the NFV-compliant ISP's edge cloud infrastructure is envisioned. This architecture would allow dramatically improving the life cycle management of the residential network from a centralized point which follows a user-centric approach.
