Sustainability and sustainable development have aroused many debates and actions in all facets of human endeavors, including in developing countries. This study examined the extent to which tertiary business schools in Ghana embrace sustainability in their curricula. By using programs advertised on their respective institutions' websites for the 2022-2023 academic year, and looking for programs that have sustainability or sustainability as a prefix. Additionally, the author relied on the examination timetable of the selected institutions for sustainability prefixes. The researcher finds that sustainability education in tertiary business faculties in Ghana is alarmingly low; despite the fact that corporate social responsibility as a course is taught in accounting courses, it is not enough to address sustainability issues in business faculties. This study recommends that it behooves the government and education regulators in partnership with large corporations to institute schemes that could entice business schools to include sustainability issues in their business education curricula.

Achieving exceptional financial performance is a primary goal for every management team due to its importance in establishing a solid firm structure and facilitating growth. However, several factors consistently hinder the attainment of this objective, resulting in adverse effects on a firm’s performance and financial success. Therefore, this study aims to analyze scholarly publications to understand relevant factors influencing the financial performance of firms in the manufacturing industry. Using keywords in the Scopus database, we identified a total of 808 papers published between 1987 and 2022, and ultimately selected 289 for further analysis based on predetermined criteria. The selected literature was then analyzed in two different ways. First, we discerned the crucial factors affecting the financial performance of manufacturing firms. Our systematic review revealed that organizational characteristics (e.g., CSR practices, strategy, board characteristics, innovation & technology, information, decision-making and communication, and environmental and sustainability practices) play a more significant role in determining the financial performance of a firm than external factors (e.g., market economic parameters, government policies & support, and competition). Second, we employed VOSViewer software to dissect the selected publications, including the creation of bibliometric co-word maps and the examination of bibliographic coupling among journals. The results yielded valuable insights into leading nations, notable journals, noteworthy studies, trending keywords, and prominent publications in this field. Moreover, our research emphasizes the multifaceted nature of financial performance-related factors, offering useful insights for future studies exploring the interplay between factors and the performance of manufacturing firms.

ÖZBu çalışmada, havayolu sektöründe yer alan firmaların ESG skorlarının firmaların finansal performansları üzerindeki etkisini test etmek amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda havayolu sektöründeki firmalardan 2010-2017 yılları arasında yıllık ESG verilerine ve finansal verilerine ulaşılan 26 havayolu firması araştırmaya dâhil edilmiştir. Çalışmada analiz yöntemi olarak panel regresyon modeli kullanılmıştır. Çalışmada ESG genel skoru ve ayrı ayrı çevresel (E), sosyal (S) ve yönetişim (G) skorlarının, özkaynak karlılığı (ROE), aktif karlılığı (ROA) ve Tobin's Q oranları üzerindeki etkisi 6 farklı model oluşturularak test edilmiştir. Çalışma sonucunda, ESG skorlarının havayolu sektöründeki firmaların finansal performansı üzerinde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir etkisinin olmadığı, sadece ESG genel skoru ile aktif karlılığı (ROA) arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir ilişkinin olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
