Next-to-next-to-leading order contributions to inclusive jet production in deep-inelastic scattering and determination ofαs

Abstract: We present the first calculation of inclusive jet production in deep-inelastic scattering with approximate next-to-next-to-leading order (aNNLO) contributions, obtained from a unified threshold resummation formalism. The leading coefficients are computed analytically. We show that the aNNLO contributions reduce the theoretical prediction for jet production in deep-inelastic scattering, improve the description of the final HERA data in particular at high photon virtuality Q 2 and increase the central fit value … Show more

“…• Predictions for inclusive jet and dijet cross sections in approximate next-to-next-to-leading order, applying the unified threshold resummation formalism [38], are obtained [39] using the program JetViP [64,[93][94][95][96]. The approximation is expected to agree with exact calculations at very large jet transverse momenta, possibly beyond the reach of this analysis.…”

“…The predictions include next-to-leading order (NLO) calculations [36,37], NLO calculations supplemented with two-loop threshold corrections (aNNLO) [38,39] and next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) [11,40] calculations. The experimental sensitivity to the strong coupling constant at the mass of the Z -boson, α s (M Z ), is studied in a fit of NLO predictions to the data.…”

“…Only recently an α s determination was performed using inclusive jet cross sections, where NLO calculations have been supplemented with contributions beyond NLO in the threshold resummation formalism, and a moderate reduction of the scale uncertainty was achieved [36].…”

“…3 (left and right) divided by the pQCD calculations at NLO corrected for hadronisation effects. New theoretical calculations in the threshold resummation formalism with 2-loop contributions (aNNLO) [4] and new predictions in full NNLO [5] perturbative QCD are also shown. For the theory calculations the PDFs of NNPDF3.0 at NLO and NNLO were used.…”
