Next generation sequencing yields the complete mitogenome of nereid worm, Namalycastis abiuma (Annelida: Nereididae)

Abstract: In this study, the complete mitogenome sequence of nereid worm, Namalycastis abiuma (Annelida: Nereididae), has been decoded for the first time by low coverage genome sequencing method. The overall base composition of N. abiuma mitogenome is 30.8% for A, 24.6% for C, 14.0% for G and 30.6% for T, and has GC content of 38.6%. The assembled mitogenome, consisting of 15 265 bp, has unique 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 21 transfer RNAs and two ribosomal RNA genes. The… Show more

“…1) to 17,469 bp in Platynereis massiliensis . All genes were coded on the same strand, consistent with previously published Nereididae mitochondrial genomes (Boore & Brown, ; Chen, Li, et al, ; Kim, Choi, Kim, & Min, ; Kim et al, ; Kim, Kim, & Lee, ; Lin et al, , ; Park et al, , ; Seixas et al, ; Won et al, ). Appendix shows information on base composition and nucleotide bias in the mitochondrial genomes sequenced.…”

“…As of 2019, 11 complete Nereididae mitochondrial genomes had been published (Boore & Brown, ; Chen, Li, et al, ; Kim, Kim, & Lee, , ; Kim et al, ; Lin, Audira, & Hsiao, ; Lin, Shen, & Hsiao, ; Park, Lee, & Kim, ; Park, Lee, Shin, & Kim, ; Seixas, Paiva, & Russo, ; Won, Rhee, Shin, & Lee, ) and two distinct tRNA gene order arrangements have been recognized by Park et al () that vary in the position of the ATP8 gene and three tRNAs. These arrangements have been referred to as ‘Group 1’ with tRNA‐Tyr, ATP8, tRNA‐Met and tRNA‐Asp and ‘Group 2’ with tRNA‐Met, tRNA‐Asp, ATP8 and tRNA‐Tyr.…”

“…Also, the comparison of partial mitochondrial COI sequences revealed significant difference between east and west north Pacific populations ( Figure 1(A); personal data of the author). Although, the comparison of complete mitogenome sequence may provide more valuable evolutionary information for phylogenetic studies (Chen et al 2016), only seven nereidids are available (Boore 2001;Won et al 2013;Kim et al 2014;Chen et al 2016;Kim et al 2016;Lin et al 2016;Park et al 2016). The purpose of this study was to determine the complete mitogenome sequence for eastern Asian population of C. cyclurus.…”
