Next Generation On Board Payload Architectures

Abstract: Satellite systems are playing a key role like access network in the provision of next generation services. New concepts in the payloads architectures are required in order to support efficiently the new multimedia services. This paper will present the study of next generation payload architecture (in the context of Satsix project), taking into account the impact over different system scenarios.

“…On the other hand, the integration in future AMERHIS evolutions of TRANSEC features does have an impact on the system: some features only have an impact on ground segment, at NCC level; others have an impact both on the MCS and on the OBP [7], since encryption of data at the MAC layer requires for instance on-board packet de-encryption to enable label switching. This is already being performed for OBP control packets in AMERHIS system but it is yet to be implemented in the user plane.…”

“…Satellite networks are a very special case of the whole of the wireless networks, with singular features and their "from-everywhere and to-everywhere" nature, which have raised some particular problems from the security point of view [7].…”

“…The AMERHIS [4][5][6] [7] system is a family of solutions of broadband satellite multimedia communication systems using regenerative OBP. This OBP provides on board signal regeneration and multi beam cross connectivity at packet level based on European DVB standards for uplink and downlink signals (DVB-RCS, DVB-S and DVB-S2).…”
