Service based architecture (SBA) is a paradigm shift from Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) to microservices, combining their principles. Network virtualization enables the application of SBA in cellular systems. To better guide the software design of this virtualized cellular system with SBA, this paper presents a software perspective and a positional approach to using fundamental development principles for adapting SBA in virtualized Radio Access Networks (vRANs). First, we present the motivation for using an SBA in cellular radio systems. Then, we explore the critical requirements, key principles, and components for the software to provide radio services in SBA. We also explore the potential of applying SBA-based Radio Access Network (RAN) by comparing the functional split requirements of 5G RAN with existing open-source software and accelerated hardware implementations of service bus, and discuss the limitations of SBA. Finally, we present some discussions, future directions, and a roadmap of applying such a high-level design perspective of SBA to next-generation RAN infrastructure. Intent driven networks are an essential stepping stone in the evolution of network and service management towards a truly autonomous paradigm. User centric intents provide an abstracted means of impacting the design, provisioning, deployment and assurance of network infrastructure and services with the help of service level agreements and minimum network capability exposure. The concept of Intent Based Networking (IBN) poses several challenges in terms of the contextual definition of intents, role of different stakeholders, and a generalized architecture. In this review, we provide a comprehensive analysis of the state-of-the-art in IBN including the intent description models, intent lifecycle management, significance of IBN and a generalized architectural framework along with challenges and prospects for IBN in future networks. An analytical study is performed on the data collected from relevant studies primarily focusing on the inter-working of IBN with softwarized networking based on NFV/SDN infrastructures. Critical functions required in the IBN management and service model design are explored with different abstract modeling techniques and a converged architectural framework is proposed. The key findings include: 1) benefits and role of IBN in autonomous networking, 2) improvements needed to integrate intents as fundamental policies for service modeling and network management, 3) need for appropriate representation models for intents in domain agnostic abstract manner, and 4) need to include learning as a fundamental function in autonomous networks. These observations provide the basis for in-depth investigation and standardization efforts for IBN as a fundamental network management paradigm in beyond 5G networks.

Detachable Web-Based Learning Framework to Overcome Immature ICT Infrastructure Toward Smart Education

Amid the recent disease outbreaks that have been spreading across the world, the education systems in every country have witnessed a dramatic transformation. In particular, the situation has promoted online learning on an unprecedented scale, with classes being held virtually on digital platforms. This vital transformation is a major challenge in developing countries where information infrastructure for remote learning is lacking. Inspired by these observations, this study first investigated the obstacles in the way of the deployment of smart education systems (SESs) in developing countries from a technical perspective. Consequently, a detachable SES framework, named vSmartEdu, is proposed. The framework is based on a hybrid online/offline web-service model, which adopts a service-based architecture (SBA) design concept to develop smart classrooms. In particular, the online mode is activated for a web-based classroom if an Internet service is available. In contrast, the offline-version of the system is available in offline mode in packaged form, and is utilized when the Internet is not available in a local classroom. Finally, a prototype was deployed to collect feedback from learners and educators at various educational levels. The trial implementation and survey results concretely validate the feasibility and advantages of the proposed solution.
