“…In line with the recent finding of Omuta et al [11] that a newly designed GW with a J-shaped tip may facilitate selective biliary cannulation, in the present study we prospectively investigated the effectiveness and safety of JGW in facilitating biliary cannulation compared with conventional AGW. The success rate of selective biliary cannulation within 10 min was 84.8 % in group J and 80.0 % in group A.…”

“…The patients were randomly assigned to two groups, namely, a JGW group (group J) and a conventional AGW group (group A), using sealed envelopes. The sample size calculations indicated that a total of approximately 134 patients would be required to detect an increase in the cannulation rate of WGC from 70 to 90 % (a = 0.05, b = 0.8; 2-tailed test) [7,8,11].…”

“…G ENERALLY, THE TIP of the guidewire is considered the most important part for success in biliary cannulation. 7 Distinctive modification of the novel guidewire is a tapered core wire at the hydrophilic distal tip. This design provides optimal flexibility and improved steerability of the guidewire so that its precise control is possible during delicate endoscopic procedures.…”
