“…The estimate T c,NT = 67 K is also sensibly close to the value predicted , for a strictly 2D system of LJ particles, T c,2D = 0.52ε aa = 62 K. Interestingly, the experimental value for the L-V transition on graphite, reported by Migone, Li, and Chan, is somewhat lower than this, T c,graphite ∼ 55 K. Similarly, the experimental isotherms of Wang et al on the nanotube indicate that the transition is expected to occur somewhat below 66 K, the lowest temperature studied . Their extrapolation of those data, using the traditional method based on the inverse of the maximum slope of a succession of isotherms, yielded a value T c,NT ∼ 55 K, quite close to the graphite value. This disagreement with the simulations suggests that the interatomic potential for Ar in both cases is about 10−15% less attractive than in free space.…”

“…39 In 1557, Spain faced bankruptcy and Genoese bankers transformed short-term loans called asientos into long-term bonds with revenues that rested on a range of taxes. 40 This granted more power to the authorities in charge of collecting these duties and taxes, particularly the regidores, local officials in charge of the finances of the community who, in turn, consolidated their rentier interests and speculated on the value of land. 41 Faced with these changes in the peninsula's social fabric, Scholastic thinkers of the period, like Fernando Vázquez de Menchaca, felt the need to remind the King that his authority rested on consensus populi.…”

“…Political economists and moralists alike blamed the Indies and its wealth, luxury, and fallen values for the ruin of the Spanish economy and the effeminization of Spanish aristocracy. 57 In response to the financial crisis in Spain, precious metals in hats, shoes, clothes, and home furnishings were condemned. Individuals were not only squandering their money, but riches were feminizing citizens and impoverishing the nation.…”
