The problem of “gully erosion” is one of the severe “natural hazards” associated with large‐scale land degradation in various parts of the world. Therefore, accurate modelling is one of the crucial responsibilities in this study on gully erosion. But there are still a lot of gaps in our knowledge of gully erosion and its consequences. Particularly at the regional to continental scale, this is true. Gullying is hence often forgotten about in regulation and watershed management plans. The scientific community is becoming increasingly interested in gully erosion, yet many information gaps still need to be filled. In this research, we are trying to fill the mentioned gap with the help of the existing literature. Most gully erosion research has been done to estimate the susceptible zones and ultimately select the best model. In this research, a test application has been made by considering some important models. Then the “vulnerability assessment” was done with the help of “gully erosion, climate‐induced chemical weathering and socio‐economic variables” at the village level. The village‐level information has been used to determine the vulnerability in this region. This information is beneficial for future researchers to conduct gully erosion research in various parts of the world.

Seismic refraction methods and Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) are commonly used as geophysical methods for rock mass characterization and ground subsurface for excavation assessment. In this study, this method was used in the BJ Kota Tinggi Quarry, Johor to evaluate the characteristics of granite and geological features and perspective zones for excavatability. There are two (2) seismic and two (2) electric resistivity surveys were performed at this site with 69m and 80m respectively. The seismic data were processed using SeisOptPicker and SeisOpt2D software. Resistivity data were interpreted and analyzed by using the software RES2DINV. Materials with seismic velocities greater than 2000 m/s show no ripping. While a low resistivity value is obtained due to fracture zones found in harder rocks that have been filled by water or clay minerals. This seismic velocity profile is then compared with the Rippability Chart by Caterpillar using the smallest ripper D8R, to obtain the rippability of the rock. While the evaluation of excavatability is carried out using the graphical method Pettifer and Fookes (1994), consider discontinuity spacing and point load index (IS(50)). The results show that the research that can be carried out is ripping, more economical and suitable for use at this site.

Resumo Este artigo traz um estudo sobre um compósito de cimento, resíduo industrial de lodo de papel e flakes de PET, visando sua potencialização para possível destinação em sistemas urbanos e moradias de baixo custo. Justifica-se pelos problemas socioambientais relacionados aos consumos de matérias-primas naturais e pela deposição indevida de produtos e resíduos no ambiente. Para isso, foram testadas as proporções 1:3, 1:4 e 1:5 de cimento e resíduos, com substituições do volume de lodo de papel por PET nas taxas de 10%, 20% e 30%. Foram avaliadas propriedades físico-mecânicas - como resistência à compressão, absorção de água e porosidade aos 28 e 90 dias em amostras não degradadas - e parâmetros de desgaste ao atrito. As propriedades físico-mecânicas foram aferidas também aos 35 e 42 dias em amostras que passaram por ciclos de degradação acelerada. De forma geral, notou-se aumento da resistência mecânica com a cura e diminuição com a inserção de lodo. O material apresentou baixa degradação nos ensaios de desgaste. Quanto à absorção de água e à porosidade, os valores aumentaram conforme o acréscimo de resíduo e com a cura, facilmente contornável com a redução de lodo e adoção de soluções impermeabilizantes.
