President's Message All ATINER"s publications including the e-journals are open access without any costs (submission, processing, publishing, open access paid by authors, open access paid by readers etc) and are independent of the presentations made at any of the many small events (conferences, symposiums, forums, colloquiums, courses, roundtable discussions) organized by ATINER throughout the year. The intellectual property rights of the submitted papers remain with the author. Before you submit, please make sure your paper meets some basic academic standards, which include proper English. Some articles will be selected from the numerous papers that have been presented at the various annual international academic conferences organized by the different divisions and units of the Athens Institute for Education and Research. The plethora of papers presented every year will enable the editorial board of each journal to select the best ones, and in so doing, to produce a quality academic journal. In addition to papers presented, ATINER encourages the independent submission of papers to be evaluated for publication. The current issue of the Athens Journal of Mediterranean Studies (AJMS) is the third issue of the fifth volume (2019). The reader will notice some changes compared with the previous issues, which I hope is an improvement. An effort has been made to include papers which extent to different issues of Mediterranean studies. Two papers are related to history; one to economics and the other to architecture-urban planning.

“…Emigration continued at a lower level into the 2000s and 2010s, with phases of waxing and waning, and the range of destinations broadened to other countries in Europe, notably the UK and Germany, as well as the USA and Canada. Recent survey data on potential migration—asking people about their intentions to migrate—indicate that more than half of 18‐ to 40‐year‐olds see their future outside the country (King & Gëdeshi, 2020). Стабильная благоприятная демографическая ситуация предполагает, что привлеченные в страну мигранты хотят остаться, а местное население не намеревается уезжать. В статье предпринимается попытка оценить, насколько разные сегменты самой миграционно подвижной группы — молодежи — склонны рассматривать Россию как страну для будущей жизни. В фокусе внимания следующие группы молодежи 18—30 лет, проживающие в России: (1) работающие мигранты, (2) иностранные студенты, (3) мигранты второго и полуторного поколения из Средней Азии, а также (4) местная молодежь. На основании опроса (N = 1143), проведенного в 2020 г. с помощью таргетинга в социальной сети «ВКонтакте», авторы рассматривают, во-первых, миграционные намерения разных групп молодежи в пятилетней перспективе, во-вторых, факторы, связанные с планами жить через пять лет в России или в другой стране, в-третьих, условия, при которых не собирающиеся через пять лет жить в России готовы изменить планы. Жить в России через пять лет планируют около половины иностранных студентов, работающих мигрантов и местной молодежи, а также две трети мигрантов второго и полуторного поколения. Результаты исследования подтверждают предположения, что «объективные» экономические показатели благосостояния, такие как размер заработной платы, менее значимы для миграционных планов работающей молодежи, чем показатели «субъективные», такие как удовлетворенность доходом, экономическим положением или работой в целом. Фактор, «выталкивающий» из России молодежь независимо от ее рода занятий и миграционного бэкграунда, — ощущение правовой незащищенности. Кроме того, для каждой группы весомы свои факторы. Для иностранных студентов это привязанность к родной стране и уверенность в трудоустройстве в России, для студентов из числа местной молодежи и мигрантов второго и полуторного поколения — наличие связей с людьми, живущими в России или других странах, для работающих мигрантов — привязанность к родной стране, а для работающих респондентов из числа местной молодежи и мигрантов второго и полуторного поколения — мнение, что в другой стране они были бы более состоятельными.
