New Trends in Immunoassays

Abstract: This article takes a special focus on signal amplification technologies in immunoassays and new generations of lateral-flow assays. Novel signal amplification technologies based either on new classes of biofunctional nanocrystals consisting of releasable fluorophores or on aggregation-induced emission (AIE) can improve the sensitivity and the limits of detection in immunoassays. A bio-barcode assay also allows signal amplification by utilizing antibody-coated magnetic beads to concentrate the analytes and anti… Show more

“…The lower limit of PSA in this method was 100 fg/mL, which is 1000 times more sensitive than ELISA. Compared with immunodetection (1 ng/mL), the method does not require specialized equipment and safeguards (12). Also, the method is simple and quick.…”

“…Magnetic beads are nano-sized or micro-sized ferromagnetic iron oxide particles. Functionalized magnetic beads coated with antibodies or oligonucleotides have been widely used for the purification, extraction and detection of biomolecules (26,27). We herein report a general method for RNA extraction based on magnetic beads and capturer strands, and its application for prostate cancer screening and diagnosis.…”
