New technology for developing a lightweight refiner plate for hardwood kraft pulp fibers

Abstract: Sand casting makes it difficult to manufacture a fine bar plate for low intensity refining. This study introduced a novel technology for manufacturing lightweight fine bar plates and compared the effects to traditional bar plates. The lightweight fine bar plate base was manufactured using a lightweight aluminum alloy and stainless-steel. Because the bars were inserted into the plate vertically without the draft angle, the stock throughput was improved by approximately 27% compared to the sand-casted bar plates… Show more

“…Examination of cellulosic fibre refining at low concentration has confirmed that the process efficiency and the quality of fibrous semi-products are more dependent on the design properties of refiner disc working surfaces and processing modes (Gao et al 2011;Cai et al 2020;Fredrikson and Paltakari 2020;Liu et al 2020;Min et al 2020).…”

“…For example, the refiner plate used in the stock preparation stage has a trapezoidal bar structure with lower bar sharpness and stock throughput. It can be introduced so that the lightweight refiner plate with a newly designed vertical bar shape can overcome these limitations and save energy [6,7].…”
