Abstract:For the determination of sulfamethaxazole (SMZ) in pure and pharmaceutical formulations, new simple sensitive spectrophotometric methods have been devised. The first technique involved forming an ion pair complex between the basic nitrogen of the SMZ medication and Eriochrome black (EBT) in an acidic buffer solution, and extracting the created complex with chloroform to get a persistent reddish-orange colored dye with a maximum wavelength of 490 nm.
