New Species of the Genus Metschnikowia Isolated from Flowers in Indonesia, Metschnikowia cibodasensis sp. nov.

Abstract: A novel species, Metschnikowia cibodasensis, is proposed to accommodate eight strains (ID03- 0093(T), ID03-0094, ID03-0095, ID03-0096, ID03-0097, ID03-0098, ID03-0099, and ID03-0109) isolated from flowers of Saurauia pendula, Berberis nepalensis, and Brunfelsia americana in Cibodas Botanical Garden, West Java, Indonesia. The type strain of M. cibodasensis is ID03- 0093(T) (= NBRC 101693(T) =UICC Y-335(T) = BTCC-Y25(T)). The common features of M. cibodasensis are a spherical to ellipsoidopedunculate shaped ascu… Show more

“…S6 and Table S1 , Supporting Information ). Metschnikowia is usually encountered in the nectar of flowers (Seijo et al 2011 , Sjamsuridzal et al 2013 ) and in honey (Seijo et al 2011 , Wen et al 2017 ), possibly having a role in its final sugar composition (Garcia-Gonzalez et al 2019 , 2020 ). The presence of Metschnikowia at the proboscis and digestive tract of bumblebees (Brysch-herzberg 2004 ) and in Melipona gut microbiota (Cerqueira et al 2021 ) has also been described.…”

“…Whereas some appropriately interpret a high bootstrap value as evidence that the integrity of a clade is well supported by the data (e.g., Kaewwichian et al, 2012; Nguyen et al, 2006), others ignore them altogether in interpreting the data (e.g., Gimenez‐Jurado et al, 2003; Hong et al, 2001; Kachalkin et al, 2021; Kurtzman & Droby, 2001; Liu et al, 2018; Sipiczki, 2014; Xue et al, 2006). More worrisome is the suggestion that the presence of a high bootstrap value at a given node constitutes evidence of a clear separation between clades that are joined at that node (e.g., Molnár & Prillinger, 2005; Sjamsuridzal et al, 2013). This is explained further in the caption of Figure 1.…”
