New Self-Clinching Fasteners for Electric Conductive Connections

Abstract: This paper presents new rotational and longitudinal symmetric self-clinching fasteners to fabricate reliable connections in busbars with low electrical resistance for energy distribution systems. Connections consist of form-closed joints that are hidden inside regions where two busbars overlap. The investigation into the fabrication and performance of the new self-clinched joints involved finite element modelling and experimentation to determine the required forces and to evaluate the electric current flow and… Show more

“…Aircraft aluminum alloy structural materials used in major components such as the fuselage, wings, landing gear, and empennage are subject to a range of loading/forces [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]. The assembly of these components involves the use of thousands of fasteners [8][9][10][11][12]. Addressing the imperative of weight reduction in the aircraft industry, AA7050 aluminum alloy wire, belonging to the Al-Zn-Mg-(Cu) series, is employed.…”

“…Rivet as an additional element in ClinchRivet joint is usually pressed by the punch from top sheet side. Sampaio et al [20] presented new geometry of self-clinching fasteners (rotationally and longitudinally symmetrical), which are hidden inside between joined sheets. This joints are lighter than steel bolted joints.…”
