New results on asymmetric thick branes

Abstract: This work deals with the presence and stability of thick brane solutions in the warped five dimensional braneworld scenario with a single extra spatial dimension of infinite extent. We combine two distinct procedures that give rise to new possibilities, allowing that we describe models of asymmetric thick branes, with the asymmetry being controlled by a single real parameter. We illustrate the main results with some distinct models, which show that the method works for both standard and generalized models, and… Show more

“…Moreover, we can also suggest the inclusion of the cuscuton dynamics in the generalized hybrid metric-Palatini gravity model investigated in the very recent work [52]. And yet, we can study issues related to asymmetry and acceleration, in particular the mechanism to make the brane asymmetric, as explored, for instance, in [14,15,[53][54][55][56], which can also be used to describe an accelerating four-dimensional universe with a stable extra dimension, in which the cuscuton is responsible for the accelerating expansion, as recently suggested in Ref. [34].…”

“…We can also consider the possibility to make the Bloch brane asymmetric, using the procedure described before in Ref. [16]. This implies in the addition of another real parameter c, changing W to W + c. We will implement this in the Bloch brane model included in Sect.…”

“…Let us now focus on a different issue concerning the study of braneworld scenarios in the presence of asymmetry. This possibility was explored before in [9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17] in several distinct situations. Here, we want to examine how the asymmetry works in the scalar-tensor representation of the f (R, T ) brane, and how it modifies the behavior of the fields ϕ and ψ.…”

“…The braneworld idea has been considered in several different contexts, for instance, to study the effects of a first-order phase transition [5], the presence of internal structure [6][7][8] asymmetric scenarios [9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17] and other possibilities [18,19]. More recently, it has been studied to contextualize important questions concerning inflation, black holes, and dark energy, for instance.…”
