New records of some Ascomycete truffle fungi from Turkey

Abstract: Introduction Most truffle fungi form an ectomycorrhizal association with various trees and shrubs. Many truffle species form this ectomycorrhizal association with specific tree genera. The positioning of Turkey at the convergence of the European flora and the Asian flora predicates a high potential for interesting ectomycorrhizal fungal partners. Little is known about the truffle diversity in Turkey. To date, only 17 Ascomycete truffle species have been reported from Turkey: Choiromyces meandriformis Vittad.,

“…The current checklists (Sesli and Denchev, 2014;Solak et al, 2015) compiled 34 pyronematous macrofungi existing in Turkey. After the latest versions of the checklists 28 members of Pyronemataceae have also been added to these lists and the total taxa number reached to 62 (Keleş et al, 2014;Türkoğlu and Castellano, 2014;Demirel et al, 2015;Karacan et al, 2015;Kaya and Uzun, 2015;Kaya et al, 2016;Kaya, 2016). As a result of this study, the number of pyromenatoid species known from Turkey has increased from 62 to 63.…”

“…Micromorphological investigations were carried out under a Nikon eclipse Ci-S trinocular light microscope and the photographs related to micromorphology were taken by a DS-Fi2 digital camera aided by a Nikon DS-L3 displaying apparatus. The specimens were identified with the help of Vittadini (1831), Mattirolo (1903), Hawker (1954), Lange (1956), Honrubia et al (1992), Pegler et al, (1993), Arroyo et al, (2005), Medardi (2006), Bidaud and Van Vooren (2008), Alvarado et al (2012), Türkoğlu and Castellano (2014) and Elliot et al (2016).…”
