“…The fungus was initially considered to be classifiable in the genus Scytalidium due to its formation of hyaline arthroconidia, similarities of clinical features, appearance in direct microscopy, and isolation from human nail. However, O. canadensis differs from Scytalidium species in its slower daily growth rate, persistance of conidial chains, susceptibility to antifungals, resistance to cycloheximide, and presence of coiled or spirrailed, knobbed, brown hyphae in old cultures (1, 2). A total of 30 mycologically confirmed cases of nail and skin infection due to O. canadensis have been reported from Canada, New Zealand, France, and the United Kingdom (3).…”
