New product development for mass customization: a systematic review

Abstract: The incorporation of tools into New Product Development (NPD) process tends to contribute to the implementation of Mass Customization strategy in companies. Different knowledge areas -such as marketing, design and engineering -offer tools for different stages of product development. The specificity of those tools makes their selection and application to NPD process difficult. This paper aims at carrying out a literature review of applicable tools in respect to the NPD aimed at MC promotion. It also aims at ide… Show more

“…The process perspective concerns how customized products are developed (see e.g. Fettermann & Echeveste, 2014). The content perspective instead covers different aspects of the actual customization such as if it is related to whether the properties of the product are unique to a particular customer order or whether the product only has standard properties that are the same irrespective of the customer (see e.g.…”

“…In those articles, computational intelligence techniques were discussed to address both functional and affective components for new product development. The literatures reviews reveal that many review articles have been written to discuss systematical and empirical methods for new product development (Graner andMissler-Behr 2012, Fettermann andEcheveste 2014). However, there is still a lack of a specific review article to solely survey machine learning techniques for affective design which is an important component in new product development despite optimizing the functional aspects in product development.…”
