New Process Capability Indices for One-Sided Tolerances

Abstract: Capability indices are dimensionless quantities measuring the ability of a process to manufacture items whose characteristics must be within a specified tolerance range. In this case and for a normally distributed process, the indices ,and pmk are widely used. In this paper we study the case where a single tolerance is imposed because the shifts in the direction of this tolerance seem more serious than in the opposite direction. We propose a family of four indices having better properties than the existing ind… Show more

“…The proposed methodology, specially the estimation of the modified tolerance region, allows assessing processes even in a situation when one or more specification limits are unilateral. Most of the proposed in the literature, unilateral indices (or maybe even all of them) assume the value of + ∞ or − ∞ for the not given specification . But in many cases, this assumption can be modified and there could be given some values taken from the process.…”

“…Recent research related to two-suppliers selection problem for a process with one-sided specifications can be found in the literature. [7][8][9][10][11][12] In recent years, Hosseinifard and Abbasi 13 employed the proportion of nonconformance concept to estimate the process capability for linear profiles with one-sided specifications. Wang 14 proposed two new indices C puA and C plA to measure the process yield for simple linear profiles with one-sided specifications.…”
