New Poly(4-Chloro)Maleimides. I. Synthesis and Characterization of Poly[Ether-Ester-(4-Chloro)Maleimides]

Abstract: New poly[N-(ester)-3-(ether)-4-(chloro)]maleimides were synthesized by the reaction of N-(4-chlorocarbonylphenyl)-3,4-dichloromaleimide (3) with various bisphenols such as hydroquinone (8a), 2,2-bis-(4-hydroxypheny1)propane (8b), 4,4'-(hexafluoroisopropy1idene)diphenol (8c), and 2,5-bis(4-hydroxybenzylidene)cyclopentanone (8d). The structures of the resulted polymers were confirmed by IR and elemental analyses. A series of model compounds (4-7) was synthesized to facilitate confirmation of the structure of the… Show more

“…In comparison with the poly[ether-ester-(4-chloro)maleimides] reported in our previous work [12], the new poly(4-chloro)maleimides are less soluble; this is probably due to the greater content of hydrogen bridges [8]. The better solubility of the products 7d and 8d could be explained by the lower inherent viscosity of the polymers: 0.12 and 0.14 dl/g, respectively.…”

“…The above-mentioned polymers possess good solubility in aprotic dipolar solvents and are available for a further curing reaction, due to the presence of an olefinic bond in their structure [9]. We have already reported the synthesis of poly(chloromaleimide-ethers) containing hexafluoroisopropylidenic units [ 11 and poly[N-(ester)-3(ether)-(4-chloro)maleimides] [12]. The present work describes the synthesis and characterization of new poly(4-chloromaleimides) with contain both amine and amide groups in the backbone.…”

“…Thus, these unique advantages make BMI a better candidate over polyimides and epoxies in the areas of electronics, aerospace, and so forth 1–5 . To date, many types of BMI have been prepared, such as maleimides containing esters, 6–8 naphthalene, 9,10 phosphorus, 11,12 triazine, and 2,13 fluorene 14 . Besides, the maleimide resin containing more than two maleimide groups has also been reported.…”

“…Recently, Koch and coworkers14 obtained pyridinium‐oxy zwitter ionic quinines by the reaction of p ‐chloroanil with pyridines. We studied a series of polymers synthesized by nucleophilic substitution of bis(dichloromaleimide) aromatic derivatives with bisphenols,15, 16 diamine,17, 18 and sodium sulfide 19, 20…”
