New Pipe Notch Detection and Location Method for Short Distances employing Ultrasonic Guided Waves

Abstract: This paper presents anovelsignal processing approach that is able to automatically identify notches in pipelines in short distances. In addition, this method locates the geometric position of the notch and determines the size. The approach for fault detection and diagnosis presented look for as olution and then validates the solution by analyzing the signal which flows in the opposite direction. Micro Fiber Composite (MFC)t ransducers are used in an austenitic stainless steel pipeline, used in solar concentrat… Show more

“…These systems allow useful information about the condition of the WTs to be extracted. This information can be used to check the status of equipment, identify potential problems before failures occur, minimize downtimes, schedule relevant repairs and maximize the efficiency of the conversion processes [15][16][17]. Since the number and the complexity of the components are growing, it is crucial to employ new technologies in the development of maintenance management strategies [6,18].…”

“…There are several techniques used for ice detection [23]. Ultrasonic Guided Waves (UGW) are one of the most efficient and reliable techniques since they can detect discontinuities in large areas [24,25], including defects on a surface [26,27], e.g. cracks.…”

“…Hamlaoui et al [122] monitored galvanised steel coatings using electrochemical spectroscopy and observed its evolution after more than 30 days. Eliaz New technologies have been demonstrated to be useful for condition monitoring and failure detection of CSP installations [126,127]. UAVs to inspect large power plants can be enhanced using image recognition and processing [118].…”
