New perspectives in regenerative medicine and surgery: the bioactive composite therapies (BACTs)

Abstract: Regenerative medicine and surgery is a rapidly expanding branch of translational research in tissue engineering, cellular and molecular biology. To date, the methods to improve cell intake, survival, and isolation need to comply with a complex and still unclear regulatory frame, becoming everyday more restrictive and often limiting the effectiveness and outcome of the therapeutic choices. Thus, the authors developed a novel 360° regenerative strategy based on the synergic action of several new components called… Show more

“…We do note there are recent studies [45][46][47][48][49] which demonstrate some evidence for blood derivatives (PRP) being used in wound healing and severe burns. These studies did not fit our initial inclusion/search criteria but their results could provide early suggestion for some clinical benefit.…”

“…Their particular mesenchymal-like morphology, the expression profile of CD34 + , CD44 + , CD31 − and CD45 − , and their ability to produce osteoblasts, chondrocytes, myocytes and epithelial and neuronal cells allows ASCs to act as chemoattractant, angiogenic and prosurvival molecules [24]. The presence of ASCs gives to AT immunomodulatory, wound healing and regenerative properties [25,26]. All these functions are supported by additional mediators that live within the SVF and are released by ASC paracrine secretion, called ASC Exosomes.…”

“…Consequently, there is a need to develop cell‐free treatments that can replicate the beneficial effects of MSCs. It is now recognized that MSCs primarily exert their therapeutic effects through paracrine signaling, 13 and exosomes play a crucial role in mediating these effects 14 …”

“…It is now recognized that MSCs primarily exert their therapeutic effects through paracrine signaling, 13 and exosomes play a crucial role in mediating these effects. 14 Mesenchymal stem cells have a robust capacity to produce exosomes, and this production remains unaffected even when cells are immortalized to generate permanent cell lines. This ensures sustainable and reproducible exosome production from MSCs.…”
