New Package Scheme of a 2.5-Gb/s Plastic Transceiver Module Employing Multiwall Nanotubes for Low Electromagnetic Interference

Abstract: A novel polymer-based multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) with high shielding effectiveness (SE) for use in packaging a 2.5-Gb/s plastic transceiver module is demonstrated. The MWCNT composites are tested to evaluate the electromagnetic (EM) shielding against emitted radiation from the optical transceiver modules. The results show that the SE of MWCNT composite packages exhibit 38-45 dB in the far-field source and 28-40 dB in the near-field source at a frequency range of 1-3 GHz, and an average of 14 dB for the … Show more

“…4 revealed that the higher weight percentage of MWCNTs exhibited to a higher electrical conductivity. The measurement results of conductivity in thin-film composites show a remarkable improvement in comparing with our previous results [17]- [18], and also comparable to Kim's results [21]- [22]. That's mainly due to the contribution from a well dispersion of MWCNTs.…”

“…The CVD produced MWCNTs are 95% pure; whereas the ADM produced MWCNTs in this experiment are not well purified before dispersion. There are a lot of impurities such as carbon nano capsules (CNC), carbonaceous impurities or ash, and amorphous carbon existed in the ADM [18]. Therefore, we need more Mica to separate the ADM produced MWCNTs to achieve the equal uniformity.…”

“…Where R = (|S 11 | 2 ) × 100% and A = (1−|S 11 | 2 −|S 21 | 2 ) × 100% [18]. It can be seen that the R > A for all investigated concentrations, this means that reflection is a primary mechanism of the shielding, as expected for metallic materials [17].…”

“…The VLT was still above 74% when concentration was 0.75 wt.%. It is comparable or even better than many other methods [10], [17]. Because of mismatching of refractive index, light is supposed to scatter severely, causing loss of transmitted light [12].…”
