New Organometallic Polymers by Polycondensation of Ferrocene and Siloxane Derivatives

Abstract: A series of condensation polymers (polyesters and polyamides) of ferrocene and siloxane derivatives have been synthesized and characterized. Thus, 1,1′-di(chlorocarbonyl)ferrocene (CAFc) and four different siloxane derivativess1,3-bis(aminopropyl)tetramethyldisiloxane) (AP 0 ), R,ω-bis(3-aminopropyl)oligodimethylsiloxane (AP), 1,3-bis(hydroxypropyl)tetramethyldisiloxane (HP 0 ), and 1,3-bis(p-hydroxyphenyleneazomethine-3-propyl)tetramethyldisiloxane (HBS 0 )swere used as monomers for this purpose. A model poly… Show more

“…These findings assure the previously obtained conclusion by Singh et al which states that the presence of the ferrocene units in the polymers contributed to their liquid crystallinity and also the ferrocene units were mesogenic [2,57].…”

“…Furthermore, the aromatic C-H bending vibration and Fe-Cp stretching vibration appear at 802 and 492 cm À1 , respectively. The FTIR spectrum shows the characteristic peaks of a ferrocene-based polyester and the spectrum coincides with the literature [2,[37][38][39][40][41][42][43].…”

“…These paramagnetic impurities are typical ferricinium derivatives, which are readily formed as a result of oxidation of ferrocene compounds. [40,41] C CP/MAS NMR spectra of these copolymers also reveal a sharp resonance line at~1.4 ppm, which is assigned to the carbon sites of the methyl groups bound to silicon atoms.…”

“…Poly(ferrocene) is one of the most synthesized and studied metallocene containing polymers due to their characteristic features derived from the ferrocene units in the polymer. The main chain type poly(ferrocene)s have been synthesized by ring opening polymerization, condensation polymerization, coupling reaction, and so on (for examples Bellas & Rehahn, 2007;Miles, Ward, & Foucher, 2009;Miles, Ward, & Foucher, 2010;Wang, Huo, Ding, & Tan, 2008;Huo, Wang, Yu, Deng, Zhou, & Yang, 2007;Cazacu, Munteanu, Racles, Vlad, & Marcu, 2006;Caracu, Vlad, Marcu, Racles, Airinei, & Munteanu, 2006;Southard & Curti, 2001). Poly(ferrocenylsilane)s have been widely synthesized by ring opening polymerization of Si bridged ferrocene compounds, as shown in Scheme 1 (for example Bellas & Rehahn, 2007).…”
