“…Saicinae (Figure 1a,d,e,f, 25 genera, ~155 species [Castro‐Huertas et al, 2023; Gil‐Santana et al, 2006; Gil‐Santana et al, 2020; Maldonado, 1990; Melo & Coscarón, 2005; Putshkov & Putshkov, 1985; Weirauch & Forero, 2007]) were traditionally diagnosed from Emesinae by the shorter forecoxa that is at most three times as long as wide, and the second visible labial segment often expanded and basally bulbous. Similar to Emesinae, Saicinae also occur in all biogeographic regions, with diversity highest in the Neotropics.…”

“…However, the asymmetric condition is a phenomenon not well understood, because basic information on the genital morphology, coupling and copula mechanisms, mating behavior, physiology, genetics, and ecology of most of the groups are unknown or insufficient for a multifactorial approach (Huber et al, 2007; Huber, 2010). Saicinae exhibits mostly symmetric genitalic structures, but asymmetric male genitalia have been recorded in genera such as Gallobelgicus Distant, 1906, Polytoxus Spinola, 1840, and recently in Pseudosaica Blinn, 1990 (Ishikawa & Yano, 1999, 2002; Rédei & Tsai, 2009, 2010; Castro‐Huertas et al, 2023). This condition is visible on three regions of the phallus: the dorsal and ventral phallothecal sclerites, and the endosomal sclerites; and they could be the three of them asymmetric or only one (usually the ventral phallotecal sclerite) (Figure 1).…”

“…Saicinae comprises 25 genera and 159 species worldwide (Castro‐Huertas et al, 2023; Gil‐Santana & Marques, 2005; Maldonado Capriles, 1990; Melo & Coscarón, 2005; Putshkov & Putshkov, 1985). Eleven genera are known from the Neotropical Region (Gil‐Santana et al, 2015, 2020; Gil‐Santana, 2011) with the remaining taxa distributed in the Afrotropical, Australian and Oriental regions (Rédei & Tsai, 2009, 2010; Villiers, 1969, 1979).…”
