New nematogenic conical-shaped supramolecular H-bonded complexes for solar energy investigations

Abstract: New conical-shaped geometrical supramolecular H-bonded liquid crystal complexes were formed through 1:2 intermolecular interactions of H-bonding between flexible core (adipic acid, A) and lateral chloro-substituted azopyridines (Bn). The chains of the terminally alkoxy substituted base (n) were changed between 8 and 16 carbons. Mesomorphic and optical examinations of the prepared complexes were measured via differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and polarizing optical microscopy (POM). Fourier-transform infra… Show more

“…The insertion of the lateral Cl atom in SMHBC structure weakens the side-by-side cohesion forces, thus increasing the predominance of the N phase formation for all 1:1 SMHBCs compared by our previous laterally neat SMHBCs [53], that briefly discussed in Section 3.3. Moreover, the molecular architecture and volume of the lateral moiety affect the mesophase thermal stability and the polarizability of whole molecule [35]. Further, the length of the terminal chain and the orientation of the lateral substituent are essential factors in determining the type and the temperature range of the produced mesophase.…”

“…The overall molecular architectures, as well as the combination of rigid (aromatic) and flexible segments (alkyl chains), produce anisotropic structures. These changes in LC features may have an impact on mesomorphism as well as the properties important for their technical applications [34][35][36][37].…”

“…Each liquid crystal assembly that makes up a display pixel is governed by its own electromagnetic field. The field modifies the liquid crystals' orientation, which alters how much light can pass through them and result in the images you see on a screen (Alamro et al, 2021;Gomha et al, 2021;Abdou et al, 2022;Alamro et al, 2022;Chi et al, 2022;Uchida et al, 2022;Wang et al, 2022;Yin et al, 2022;Behera et al, 2023;Ma et al, 2023).…”
