New Measurement Method for Spline Shaft Rolling Performance Evaluation using Laser Displacement Sensor

Abstract: In order to control the quality of spline shaft in rolling process, an efficient measurement method for rolling performance evaluation is essential. Here, a newly developed on-machine non-contact measurement prototype based on laser displacement sensor and rotary encoder is proposed. The prototype is intended for the automated evaluation of the spline shaft rolling performance by measuring the dimensional change of tooth root, which is correlated with the surface residual stress and micro-hardness. Laser displ… Show more

“…The minimum shaft diameter is 50.8 mm, and the recommended minimum diameter is 76.2 mm for Bently Nevada 3300 5 mm probes to reduce cross-talk interactions between probes. Researchers have sometimes had to employ other methods, such as the use of capacitance [ 30 ], laser [ 31 ], and electrostatic [ 32 ] devices, to measure the displacement and vibration of shafts.…”
