New improved Brazilian daily weather gridded data (1961–2020)

Abstract: The demand for meteorological gridded datasets has increased within the last few years to inform studies such those in climate, weather, and agriculture. These studies require those data to be readily usable in standard formats with continuous spatial and temporal coverage. Since 2016, Brazil has a daily gridded meteorological data set with spatial resolution of 0.25 × 0.25 from January 1, 1980 to December 31, 2013 which was well received by the community. The main objective of this work is to improve the Brazi… Show more

“…Daily maximum air temperatures (Tmaxi,j,t in °C) were obtained from the BR‐DWGD database (Brazilian Daily Weather Gridded Database; Xavier et al, 2022), originally at a spatial resolution of ≈1 × 1 km. These temperature data were utilized to compute the annual absolute maximum temperature recorded for each crop season (maximum air temperature).…”

“…We calculated the climatology (precipitation) for the sites of our study (Table 1) using data from the New Improved Brazilian Daily Weather Gridded Data (2000-2020) (Xavier et al, 2016(Xavier et al, , 2022. The calculation was performed by the average of the monthly sums during the entire period .…”

“…In South America, only few efforts have been undertaken to create gridded temperature datasets, mainly because of the low density of weather stations or the lack of long-term data series. However, there are significant advances in the construction of gridded datasets in countries such as Brazil 33 , 34 , Chile 35 , and Bolivia 36 , 37 . For Peru, only two databases exist currently.…”
