New host and locality records of two nematode parasites Dujardinnascaris mujibii (Heterocheilidae) and Hysterothylacium aduncum (Anisakidae) from the common seabream Pagrus pagrus: a light and scanning electron microscopic study

Abstract: In the present study, the morphology and morphometric characterization of Dujardinnascaris mujibii (Heterocheilidae) and Hysterothylacium aduncum (Anisakidae), new nematode parasites infecting the sea bream Pagrus pagrus (Osteichthyes, Sparidae), were described for the first time from the Gulf of Suez and Hurghada City of the Red Sea, Egypt. Ninety-eight (70 %) and 62 (44.2 %) out of 140 of the examined fish were naturally infected with these nematodes, respectively. The infection was investigated macroscopica… Show more

“…(Adroher et al 1996). Specimens of H. aduncum identified in this study from the two fish species T. trachurus and B. boops show the same morphological criteria as those observed by Shih and Jeng (2002) in Taiwanese coast of the Northwest Pacific and Morsy et al (2013) in the Red Sea. However, the morphometric criteria of our specimens show a slight difference compared to those reported by the same authors.…”

“…In the literature, Hysterothylacium aduncum has been reported from the Northeastern Atlantic [8,9], the Mediterranean Sea [10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18], the Black Sea [19], the Adriatic Sea [20], the Pacific and Atlantic waters of North America [21,22], Northwest Pacific, [23] and the Pacific Ocean costs of Japan [24].…”

“…According to Hudson et al (2006), the diversity of parasites in the ecosystem is indicative of their overall health. Nematodes are considered one of the largest and most diverse groups of helminth parasites that infect marine, freshwater, and even brackish water fish (Klimpel et al, 2011;Morsy et al, 2013). Their infections cause great morbidity in humans and animals.…”
