New grid impedance estimation technique for grid-connected power converters

Abstract: Grid impedance estimation is crucial for operating and controlling of grid-connected converters, especially with the high penetration of renewable energy sources into microgrid and smart grid. One of the technical challenges is how to fast and accurately estimate the grid impedance, even under the distorted and unbalanced conditions. Many impedance estimation methods have been presented in the past decades. Most of them intentionally inject one or more disturbance signals, low frequency or high frequency, to e… Show more

“…In this study, it is classified under the modelling of the microgrid estimation technique. In [145], an intelligent grid impedance estimation approach is designed to accurately and quickly estimate impedance under distorted and unbalanced network conditions. The method applies the intrinsic switching behaviour of a grid-integrated power converter to deal with the excitation of the grid response.…”

“…This method constructs two different system operating points by changing the active and reactive power command of the controller so as to obtain the resistance and reactance of the system, respectively, but this method can only be applied to the three‐phase inverter with constant power control. In [25], the use of the inherent harmonic component of inverters to estimate grid impedance is proposed. Although this method does not need to inject additional harmonics into the system, the grid‐connected inverter limits the harmonics near the switching frequency to a small range by reasonably designing the parameters of the filter, so the feasibility of this method is difficult to guarantee.…”
