Abstract-The design and physical implementation of hybrid folded rectangular waveguide (HFRW) filters providing multiple transmission zeros (TZs) below the passband are considered in this paper. These structures offer great flexibility to locate the TZs in a wide frequency range. Different implementations have been considered, each one offering certain advantages in terms of ease of manufacture, number of TZs and their separation from the passband. A simple design procedure for these structures is also described. Measurements of a manufactured 5-pole filter prototype, and simulations (obtained with several available commercial software tools) for different triplet sections, fully validate the novel configurations proposed in this work.

AgradecimientosA pesar de las dudas iniciales que tenía sobre cual podía ser mi aportación a un mundo tan estudiado como el de los dispositivos de microondas en guía de onda, considero que la decisión de realizar esta tesis ha sido todo un acierto. La colaboración entre la Universidad Politécnica de Valencia y la empresa de base tecnológica Aurorasat ha permitido enfrentarme a problemas de interés científico, pero que a su vez tienen aplicación práctica directa en la industria. Agradezco enormemente a Vicente Boria por haber hecho posible esta colaboración, haberme animado a embarcarme en ella y confiado en que la llevaría a cabo conéxito. Sin su liderazgo y tenacidad, esta tesis no hubiera sido posible.Durante el desarrollo de la misma he tenido la gran suerte de contar con dos valiosos mentores, como son Jordi Gil y Pablo Soto. Para mí han sido toda una referencia tanto profesional como personal. Han sabido orientarme en momentos críticos, y su implicación ha sido total desde el primer momento. Current designs of space IMUX filters are based on dual-mode circular waveguide cavities, on dielectric resonators or, at the lower end of the frequency spectrum, on coaxial resonators. This paper presents a new kind of IMUX filter aimed at high operating frequencies (Ka, Q, and V bands) which was developed in the frame of an ESA funded study named KALOS-DEVAQ. The new filter implements a quasi-elliptic frequency response and is characterized by simple geometry. The mechanical structure is composed of stacked metallic plates and it is well suited to be manufactured, at a low cost, with high accuracy. Despite the lower unloaded Q factor, the new configuration allows achieving a comparable flatness of insertion loss and group delay, thanks to the application of the pre-distortion technique. The increased insertion loss does not affect the system performances because it can be compensated by the amplification stages in the RF chain.
