“…This property makes them flame retardant, which is applicable for coating of the polyolefin separator. Both Al(OH) 3 (Figure C) and Mg(OH) 2 were investigated as the coating agent for PE separators . It was found that these metal hydroxides not only enhanced the thermal stability of the PE separator, but also improved the wettability of the separator.…”

“…While used in composite separators, they also enhance the thermal stability of separators. Yeon et al used aluminum hydroxide (Al(OH) 3 ) and magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH) 2 ) metal hydroxides with PVDF‐HFP binder as a coating layer for PE separators. PE modified separators with both metal hydroxides show a reduction in self‐extinguishing time due to the respective fire‐retardant capabilities and also exhibit high dimensional stability at elevated temperatures, as given in Figure a,b.…”

“…Since the separators in LIBs must have good affinities toward organic liquid electrolytes, their water contact angles [18,19] and electrolyte uptake amount [13,14,16] were also measured. The contact angles of the separators are nearly identical (~120 ) owing to the same raw materials and production conditions.…”
