“…We also identified Trichodysplasia spinulosa polyomavirus (TSPyV) [36], which is also seroprevalent in humans [37]. TSPyV viremia has been described, via PCR amplification, in immunosuppressed individuals but not in healthy controls [38]. …”

“…It is still unclear whether TS is triggered by reactivation of a latent TSPyV infection or whether it represents a de novo infection in immunosuppressed patients. Recently, low levels of TSPyV viremia were detected by rtPCR in asymptomatic kidney transplant patients 14 . Additional prospective studies of immunosuppressed patients who have not yet developed clinical signs of TS could yield insights into the role of TSPyV in TS pathogenesis.…”

“…The 0.5% prevalence of TSPyV viremia that we observed in the KTx patients cohort reported here is lower than previously found by Urbano et al, who reported a prevalence of 27% in the KTx patients . We assume that different immunosuppressive regimens or geographical differences explain the discrepancy in the prevalence of TSPyV infection in the primarily Dutch and Argentinian cohorts.…”
